John Gibson Parkhurst
John Gibson Parkhurst (April 17, 1824 – May 6, 1906) was a brevet brigadier general in the Union Army during the American Civil War and post-Civil War American diplomat. He was born the youngest of six children of Stephen and Sally (née Gibson) Parkhurst in Oneida Castle, New York. One of his older siblings died before he was born. He was promoted from colonel of the 9th Michigan Volunteer Infantry Regiment to Provost Marshal General for the Department of the Cumberland. He was United States Marshal for the Eastern District of Michigan from 1866 to 1869 and United States Minister to Belgium from 1888 to 1889.
